Best Historical Restoration

Project presented for Hamilton Hall on the MSU Campus. Presented by the Montana Contractor’s Association building Excellence Awards Program.  Built in 1910, Hamilton Hall was designed by Fred F. Willson as a women’s dormitory, and was the second structure on the MSU campus. The construction project included structural remediation, total demolition of the first and second floors, new interior foundations, and reinstating the historical fabric of the common areas; complete restoration of the exterior masonry on the building and the north entry; and replacement of single pane windows and doors with energy efficient ones that replicate the historic profile of the originals.  Upgrades also involved replacing the antiquated mechanical and electrical systems to comply with the State of Montana’s initiative for energy efficient buildings.  Site and landscape renovation also took place to mitigate further water infiltration issues at the foundation.
